As I was driving home today, I saw this ad....bacon wrapped pizza crust. I thought, why? We need more fat? We need more carbs? America's not fat enough?
Why is America so fat? Is it because we don’t exercise enough? Is it because of sedentary jobs, computer run generation, too much sitting on our asses because of the technology age? No. It's because of what we eat.
Why are restaurants and the food industry doing their best to fatten us up?
Are they preparing us for the slaughter? Doesn't it seem short-sighted to get your customers unhealthy so that they will die younger and not be a consumer anymore?
They're killing America off. Yet....America begs for more. More fat. More carbs. More sodium. The less balanced it is and the higher in fat and carbs, the more they want it. Why? It's fast, it's quick, it's easy, it's filling, it's on the way, and it tastes good. Really good. It's addictive. On purpose. Are you satisfied after a meal like this? Yes. An hour later? No. You feel lethargic, bloated and like crap.
This one sandwich - ONE SANDWICH - has more than a daily allowance of fat, has over 2300 mg of sodium -- 2300!, and almost 1200 calories. ONE SANDWICH. You are going to feel like crap after eating this. Yet, you crave it. Of course you do, it's filled with all of the ingredients a brain craves to give you the same effect of sex, or a good run, or a good workout, or laughing. The restaurants and food industry don't do this by accident. It's intentional. A LOT of research was done by the food industry to make sure you crave it.
If you were to follow the daily recommended guidelines of calories/carbs/protein/fat for a 2,000 calorie diet, it would look something like this:
I don't agree with the above nutritional guidelines, but that's another blog post. Personally, my thoughts are the carbs are too high and the protein is too low. But, this is a general guideline of what the Food & Drug Administration recommends.
As you can see, the one sandwich surpasses or at the very least, is almost your entire food intake allotment for the day. The DAY! Oh, and that's only the sandwich...that doesn't include the fries or drink yet.
However, if you were to balance out your macronutrients through the day an refrain from eating a meal like this, you would have more energy, not feel bloated and miserable. If you, instead had a cup of broccoli, 5 ounces of chicken and a cup of rice instead, you would have the nutrients your body needs -- balanced nutrients -- to sustain you, curb your cravings and satisfy what your body needs. Or, if you prefer: 6 oz of steak, a potato and broccoli -- plus a salad. Seems more like a meal, doesn't it?
The moral of the story: If you want to be healthy, feel good, not be lethargic and sick all of the time, DON'T eat this crap. Or at least don't make it a habit of it. If you do feel the need to eat this crap, balance. It's all about balance and moderation. Make the healthy choice your frequent choice and this your occasional splurge.
Take care of your bodies if you want to have quality of life and quality of life well into your golden years. If you take care of your body now, it will treat you right later in life.
I'm done with my rant for the day. Carry on.
